What to wear on winter walks

What I wear on winter walks: I'm admittedly NOT a cold weather person. Watching it from inside a warm and comfy place, yes. Trekking through the snow or cold, not so much.

And yet, Forest Therapy has changed that perspective for me. One of my all-time favorite walks was in Massachusetts at Spirit Fire Retreat Center. It was still snowing lightly, with an inch or two on the ground. We were the first footsteps in the newly fallen snow and it was magical! I've learned to dress t
hat one layer more than I think I need and it always turns out to be just what I need. My insulated pants, my reflective jacket, so it's light and my body heat keeps me warm, sometimes hand warmers and toe warmers. It's no time to be reckless or let ego get in the way. They are awesome companions! My hat, of course, which comes off and goes back on again, as needed.

The only regret is fingerless gloves so I can play my NA flute during the walk. Sometimes, it's to remind us to drop back into the invitation; other times, it's to call the group back to circle. I need my fingertips to play my flute and they get a bit cold from time to time. Nice heavy outdoor socks help feet and toes and always shoes for the season; something that will handle an icy trail as well as a muddy one.

I always have extra hats, mittens and scarves in the car; new in packages from the dollar store, in case anyone forgot something, or regret that they didn't bring something that now seems like a really good idea.

I hope this helps! Linda (photo by the amazing Carol Mossa , Earth's School of Love.)
